‘Dancing to be A Star’: A Thrilling Experience

Dancing to be a Star held at Metro Toronto Convention Centre, July 19th at the same time with the Mabuhay Festival, was another hit and a huge successful affair to remember. It has facinated audiences across GTA with stunning and impressive performances and done again this year with flying colors.

Chaired by Leonie Manzanares, Council of Leaders of PIDC (Philippine Independence Day Council) and led by Jun Enverga, it is really hard not to be startled as to how it was organized with competitors casting, judging, food and deejay selection, as well as showcases of professional ballroom exhibitions. Once again, it was a thrilling experience on the part of the competitors whose willpower deserve an enduring memory of their triumph in dancing.

The fact that PIDC Board’s attention was focused on the festival, it was still a gratifying result through the help of many generous sponsors, competitors cooperation and unity and the Chair’s dedication and her assistants, Pete Mauricio and Imie Belanger. The DJ (Momentum Sounds), who kept the dance floor full at all times was incredible. Competitors were elegantly dressed up according to the categories of what they’re presenting and couldn’t wait to display their creative and imaginative dancing talents. The three judges (Richard Thibeault, Giorgio Argentini & Cristina Muzynski) have done their respective jobs smoothly as tabulators (Al Tupe, Yuli Peng & Connie Celino) added the three scores of the judges together and verified the total.

The casting of the competitors were done absolutely stunning and considered all by the Chair, to be brilliant and remarkable challengers and all deserve to win. Casting, setting up, scheduling, and preparations are the keys to keep these competitors bouncing and be enthusiastic to join and then, the crossing began with finding the very best STARS on the floor! Competitors who brought home the DSTARS Trophies were:

Silver Category:

Bernadette Capellan & Eric Fernando – 1st Prize
Linda Yugo & Jaycee Quiambao – 2nd Prize
Elaine & Ron Amyotte – 3rd Prize

Gold Category:

Christina & Carlos Ortiz – 1st Prize
Minda Javier & Paul Morgan – 2nd Prize
Julia Lee & Eric Fernando – 3rd Prize

The hearty emceeing for the night though was done by Leonie as the designated emcee, Kathryn Bayang (Miss PIDC Philippines 2004), unavoidably didn’t show up. So as the pretty flashy affair is enormously interesting and out of the ordinary, as all competitors belted out their very best and much to audience bemusement, you will hear the audience “wows” throughout.

And in addition to all fun and excitement, two pairs of ballroom professional, terrific and impressive exhibitions were done by Richard Thibeault and Zina Wykowski Pro-Am Competitors, followed by Andra Vaidilaite and Grigory Baldyrev, World Junior Latin Champion and served as the focus and highlight of the evening.
