It was another milestone in the history of Central Phlippines University Alumnni Association- Greater Toronto Area (CPUAA-GTA) and an extra-ordinary memorable evening for CPU alumni and friends as the chapter celebrated their 30th anniversary with a gala event at the Mississauga Grand Banquet and Conference Centre, City of Mississauga.

Held on the evening of October 3rd, 2008, the festive occasion was attended by over 250 alumni, benefactors, friends other distinguished guests. Many of the original and founding chapter members and officers were present, including Rev. Dr. Godfrey Catanus, who came all the way from Chicago and Rick Falco, the founding President. Rev. Dr. Catanus was the special guest and he gave the inspirational message. “It is your strong faith in God that keeps our chapter united and progressive, and your love and respect with one another that provide hope among our members and for new generations of Centralians that is yet to come,” said Dr. Catanus.

Ms. Perla Guillergan Londres, President of CPU Federation of Overseas Alumni Associations, Inc. (CPUFOAA) was in attendance and delivered her greetings. She also presented to the chapter two recognition awards: CPUAAI’s Recognition for the Chapter’s contribution to CPU’s Typhoon Frank Flood Relief effort; and CPUFOAA’s Recognition for the Chapter’s contribution to the 5th Global reunion held in Las Vegas last July.

The theme of the celebration was “30 Years Journey in Love, Faith and Hope”. Ms. Josie Calfoforo Dayao did a great job as the chairperson of this memorable occasion, noted Norma Van Dusen who was the master of ceremony. “The members can look back to the last 30 years with great pride at their accomplishments–one of the leaders among alumni chapters in providing financial support to fellow alumni and the University, provisioning of resources like books and equipment, and funding scholarship to deserving students, to name a few,” said Rick Falco in his greetings.

The chapter was host to the 3rd CPU Global reunion in 2003, and was an integral part of the recently concluded 5th Global reunion in Las Vegas , NV.

Chapter President Edwin Frank Talaban Arroz noted in his message: “Thirty years ago, a chapter in Toronto was born because of the Love, Faith and Hope of a few individuals…All have one thing in common–the Central Spirit. Love for our Alma Mater, Central Philippine University whose seal bears these words “Scientia et Fides”; Love of the American Baptist missionaries, their passion to teach and educate our forefathers 103 years ago. Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, our Creator, Redeemer and Savior; Faith–the bulwark of the great Christian university and of all the students that passed through her corridors. HOPE that the legacy will continue until we hear the Master’s Word “Well done”.”
