Life is all about balance, when there is an imbalance in our life it affects our whole self, mind, body and spirit. When there is illness it is caused by some imbalance in the system which may very well be a result of an imbalance in one’s life. The body and the mind are very much connected and this cannot be overlooked.

A balanced lifestyle can promote overall health, including our physical, mental, and social well being. An unbalanced lifestyle can result in high stress, fatigue, unhappiness, and increased problems which in turn can be a precursor to health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and the list goes on.

To live a balanced lifestyle we need to go back to the basics. Simplify life by prioritizing what really matters most then focus on whether or not we are working towards that It is so easy to get all caught up in our work and all the things we need to do like take care of bills, mortgages, car maintenance, etc. In the midst of it all we tend to forget about ourselves. This is our first mistake, we must first take care of ourselves and our health should always be a priority because without it we cannot function and do what needs to be done. “So many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health.” ~A.J. Reb Materi, Our Family.

How to live a balance lifestyle:

• Nutrition. We all need to eat to nourish our bodies with vitamins and nutrients that every cell in our bodies requires for it to function. It doesn’t need to be complicated. Think of food as fuel, the cleaner the fuel the better our bodies can function. We cannot feed our bodies food that are not providing the necessary nutrients and expect to be able to endure the stress we subject ourselves to.

• Exercise. The body is designed to move, without regular exercise our health suffers. The benefits of exercise are endless, from preventing obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, control cholesterol levels, regulate blood glucose levels, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. It can improve stress levels , sleep quality and mental clarity as exercises helps to increase serotonin levels which is the feel-good neurotransmitters in our brain.

• Down time. In this fast paced world we need to take the time to slow down, and enjoy the little things, whether it’s spending time with loved ones, or taking on a hobby like gardening, playing golf, knitting, reading books, meditation, anything that brings you enjoyment and the feeling of peace and happiness. After all isn’t that what life is all about?

• Getting adequate sleep. This is vital for our well being. We need to make sure that our body gets the rest it deserves after all that we do throughout the day. Getting a good night’s rest will allow the body to restore the energy we require for the day ahead.

When we spend the time to take care of ourselves, our life will be balanced, our body mind and spirit will be in homeostasis which is the key to wellness. “The greatest wealth is health.” ~Virgil
