Congratulations to John Paul (JP) Catungal !!!
Dr. JP Catungal completed his PhD in Geography at University of Toronto, and is now a Killam Postdoctoral Fellow with the Institute of Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice at University of British Columbia.
GOVERNOR GENERAL’S GOLD MEDALS
The Governor General’s Gold Medal was first awarded in 1873 by the Earl of Dufferin. This award has since become one of the most prestigious that a student at a Canadian educational institution may receive. The Gold Medal is awarded to three students who achieve the highest academic standing at the graduate level. This year SGS received 23 nominations.

Dr. John Paul Cervas Catungal: In December 2013, under the supervision of Professors Deborah Leslie and Matthew Farish in the Department of Geography, Dr. Catungal completed his doctoral dissertation “For Us, By Us: Political Geographies of Race, Sexuality and Health in the Work of Ethno-specific AIDS Service Organizations in Global-multicultural Toronto”.
