CPFW returns with more icons, visionaries, and rising stars of Philippine fashion in the 2nd annual celebration of Filipino-Canadian style

TORONTO–Canada Philippine Fashion Week officially welcomed Philippine Airlines as title sponsor of the 2nd annual celebration of international style and culture at a national press conference in Toronto this afternoon.

After winning the prestigious FEO Best New Festival Award last year, CPFW returns with an even bigger and more spectacular lineup featuring internationally renowned Philippine fashion icons, Visionaries and rising stars. Taking place in Toronto, Canada from June 9th – 14th, 2014, CPFW and will feature a variety of unique programs: The Habi Textile Exhibit, Independencia: Filipino Pride & Style, Philippine Icons of Style, Manila Chic, Visionary Collection, Project Terno, Filipino Future Perfect, CPFW Model of the Year, Canada Philippine Fashion Ball, and a new consumer focused initiative- the CPFW Showroom.

CPFW is dedicated to the promotion and development of Filipino fashion talent in the Philippines and Canada, exploring the cultural intersection of Canadian and Filipino style and culture for a good cause – the Kol Hope Foundation for Children, a charitable organization that helps children with disabilities in both countries.

Founded by Filipino-Canadian television personality Jeff Rustia, the award-winning week of Filipino fashion, culture and philanthropy will span 6 days at spectacular venues in Toronto and feature world-class fashion shows, live performances, entertainment, exhibits, art and food.

With the prestigious win of the FEO 2014 AWARD for Best New Festival of the Year, CPFW becomes a travel destination event in Toronto, Canada.  Canada Philippine Fashion Week is proud to be endorsed by the Philippine government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Department of Tourism, and the Ontario government and the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and Culture. Canada Philippine Fashion Week is also proud to be part of Celebrate Ontario.

Opening night launch of habi textile exhibit

CPFW’s by invitation only opening night celebration will feature the North American premiere of the Habi Textile Exhibit and the launch of 100 Habi: A Journey through Philippine Handwoven Textiles, presented by Rurungan sa Tubod Foundation and Habi: the Philippine Textile Council. The exhibit will feature 9 panels of textiles that represent the different weaving communities from around the Philippines. The night will also feature a special Tepina fashion show – featuring the latest styles created from Piña -  Philippine’s pineapple fiber. (Monday, June 9th, 2014, Shangri-La Toronto)

PHILIPPINE ICONS OF STYLE
Debuting for the first time outside of its homeland, The Philippine Icons of Style is a curated fashion show and exhibits featuring the legendary works of Philippine fashion legends Ben Farrales, Noli Hans, Mike Dela Rosa, Loreto Popioco, Rusty Lopez

Oskar Peralta, and Efren Ocampo.  This year, we are very proud to honor Philippine Icon of Style, Frederick Peralta with a special CPFW ICON AWARD for 30 years of artistry and contribution to Philippine Fashion. Peralta will be celebrating his 30th year anniversary with a special 30-piece collection to be premiered in Toronto.  (Friday, June 13th, Philippine Fashion’s Biggest Night at the Royal York, 6pm)

This year’s CPFW Visionary is Noel Crisostomo, a Filipino-Canadian Designer who best exemplifies a modern day, forward thinking, fashion genius. With a Canadian design sensibility and his love for “haute couture and tailoring traditions”, Noel has developed a personal vision of timeless elegance, where the classic generates a new modernity. MANILA CHIC

Manila chic pays homage to today’s fashion stars and the Filipino modern day aesthetic. Preview the Pret-a-Porter collections of Kim Gan, Norman Noriega, Avel Bacudio, Ann Ong, John Paras, Ronaldo Arnaldo, Jerome Salaya Ang, Joel Escober, Jingo Inoncillo, Jontie Martinez, Don Ramiro and Odelon Simpao. FUTURE PERFECT

Future Perfect is presented by the Philippine Fashion Group – a collective of young, Avant-garde, rising stars from the Philippines, who are breaking the mold and setting the style standards for the future of Philippine fashion. Spearheaded by “Look of Style 2012” winner, Roland Alzate, the group includes Michael Leyva, Jaggy Glarino, Kristal de Guzman, Mak Tumang, Tal de Guzman, Renan Pacson, Joana Almagro, and Emir Yamamoto. CANADA PHILIPPINE FASHION BALL: SALUTE TO FRANCIS LIBIRAN
Kol Hope Foundation for Children proudly presents CANADA PHILIPPINE FASHION BALL, a beautiful charity gala dinner and a beautiful salute to Top Philippine Fashion Designer Francis Libiran.  Francis Libiran quickly rose to prominence after becoming a featured designer on “America’s Next Top Model”. Described as “extremely hard-working, tedious and passionate”, Libiran creates signature pieces that reflect his background in Architecture, and cosmopolitan perspective. Canada Philippine Fashion Week proudly presents his 2014 collection on the main runway at our First Annual Canada Philippine Fashion Ball, in support of Kol Hope Fund@World Vision.   (Saturday June 14th, 2014, Royal York, 6pm)

Canada Philippine Fashion Week is proud to announce the launch of a new non-profit initiative, CPFW Showroom – a pop up boutique intended to promote designers from the Philippines and Canada in a retail environment. CPFW Advisory Council is a board of distinguished member representatives from various sectors in fashion, culture, business, design, and education in both the Philippines and Canada.
