A Very Important Service
On the occasion of the Philippine Reporter’s 25th Anniversary celebration, I am pleased to extend warmest congratulations and well wishes on behalf of Sing Tao Daily.
For a quarter of a century, the Philippine Reporter has provided a very important service to Canadian Filipino community, not only in providing news information but also helping them integrate into the mainstream community in their second homeland.
To you and your team, I wish you continuous successes.

Dear Brother Hermie and Sister Mila,
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of your publication, please allow me to express my great appreciation and congratulate you for the excellent work yourself and your staff are doing, in your efforts to keep a well-informed community. Especially please allow me to express my respect to you as being one of the best professionals of the sector, keeping a balanced report of the international happenings at home and abroad.
Taking this opportunity I want also to express best wishes of my office on behalf of the members of the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada and our best wishes for many future successful returns. I also commend your enthusiasm and hard work with the NEPMCC, as the responsible Director for Human Rights of the organization for the last fifteen years as well as your dedication and struggles for social justice, equality among all, and the promotion of equal opportunities for all Canadians.
Finally, please allow me to express my personal regards for your fine publication as being one of the best community publications in Canada, and also congratulate the members of the Canadian Filipino communities for their support to such a great publication. Please accept my heartfelt congratulations.
Dear Mila and Hermie,
I was greatly touched reading the Toronto Star story about your struggles over the years and your hard-earned success and accomplishment. Congratulations!!!
I know it is not easy to reach today’s milestone. It requires such dedication and determination and hard work, and your amazing ability to rally friends and volunteers of your community to achieve what appears to be next to impossible. My hearty congratulations to you and your team.
We wish you all the best for the celebration evening, and a prosperous future for the Philippine Reporter.

On behalf of the Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV), I would like to congratulate Hermie and Mila Garcia, publishers and dynamic journalists, of Philippine Reporter on the occasion of the newspaper’s 25th Anniversary.
I always admire the reporting style of Philippine Reporter as it focuses on labor movement, migrant workers right advocating change and social justice like the case of Juana Tejada, a caregiver who lobbied for reforms to the federal live-in caregiver program. Juana did not live long to witness the passing of a Bill called Juana Tejada Law named after her which eliminates the requirement for live-in caregivers to undergo a second medical examination.
Philippine Reporter must be commended for its comprehensive reporting, unbiased commentary and in depth coverage of important issues.
President, Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV)

Dear Mila and Hermie,
KRuds and I are so unceasingly and unabashedly proud of the two of you and your family. The challenges you faced launching the Philippine Reporter was so daunting that any one else would have quit right at the start and any time in between. The two of you have proven that love can conquer all – love for each other, for your family, your country and your countrymen. Your legacy will live on.
