Blog #14: Some interesting facts about money
April 1, 2015
“Money is the root of all evil.” Some say this is a misquote. They say the right quote is “The love of money is the root of all evil.”
The second quotation makes more sense. For if you love money or worship money, that makes you materialistic and devoid of moral values. For money is associated with material things and if you put priority to material possessions over virtues like caring for others, charity, generosity, spirituality, sense of fairness, honesty, integrity, discipline, respect for others, thorough, decisive, industry, truthful, faithful, consistent, transparent… I could go on and on but you get what I mean.
Yet money in itself is not bad per se. It is just a symbol of a value for the exchange of goods and services. Value of course is relative, depending on the circumstances when the exchange is being made. The price of bottled water in the supermarket is much lower than in a 5-star hotel. Lunch food in a school cafeteria is much cheaper than lunch in a stylish restaurant in a trendy place in a big city downtown.
There are more aspects and dimensions of money as its use evolved in history. And money and its forms and uses have changed for sure especially in the past decades with the advent of the electronic and online world.
But we’re not here to engage in an academic discussion of money. Let’s leave that to the economists, the political economists, the money experts and gurus, the financial advisers and the moneyed elites.
Let’s just take a look at some interesting facts about money. Again, our source is the website www.unbelievablefactsblog.com.
