TORONTO–Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People is proud to begin its 45th Anniversary Season with The Invisible Girl by award-winning Canadian playwright Michele Riml. This lively and fresh take on the pursuit of popularity will be presented on the Mainstage from October 12 to 23, 2010. With young people just returning to school, this timely play provides parents attending with their children a gentle way to approach the subject of social bullying.
Ali used to be part of the most popular group in Grade 5. Then she made a BIG mistake and now all her best friends treat her like she’s invisible! When no one sees you, it’s amazing how you start to see others. The Invisible Girl is a smart and humorous look at our culture’s preoccupation with fashion, beauty and popularity. It’s about being yourself and standing up for what’s right, even if sometimes it’s easier to be invisible.
Vancouver-based Michele Riml has had plays have been produced across Canada and the United States, including The Globe Theatre, The Grand, The Arts Club Theatre and The Belfry. Her work has received several awards, including the Sydney Risk Award for Outstanding New Play, and a Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Large Theatre production. Michele has also been nominated for an additional nine “Jessies” and in 2008, she was nominated for the Siminovitch Prize.
