Migrante Canada’s 1-800 number now available

Connecting migrants with migrant advocates

The sad state of the Filipino people persists under the present Aquino administration.
This pushes them to migrate and leave behind their families. Four thousand Filipinos fly out of the Philippines everyday searching for a better future for their loved ones.

Migrante Canada sees no fundamental change in government policies that would uphold and secure the rights and well being of overseas Filipinos. The latter’s situation is made more difficult by budget cuts for legal services from the Philippine government, added fee impositions and the mandatory Pag-ibig contributions.

The Philippines is now the top source country for immigrants outranking China and India. Migrant workers are arriving in Canada unaware of what their rights and obligations are. Some of them are victims of unscrupulous employment agencies and abusive employers. Cases of neglect by and lack of protection from the Philippine government have been brought to the attention of Migrante Canada .

In August 6, 2011 Migrante Canada’s 1-800 number became operational.

1-800-559-8092 is a toll free number that Filipinos can now dial to connect with Migrante Canada. This number can also receive fax messages and will be able to connect our “kababayans” to migrant advocates and community agencies that can assist them.
