Silayan leads St. Jamestown fest
The Silayan Filipino Community Center headed by its president, Rose Tijam, and its executive director, Evelyn L. Laraya, will be at the forefront of Toronto’s St. Jamestown Festival sometime in June this year with the participation of all the business, community and neighbourhood, youth organizations in the area.
Two of the leaders in the area who are very much identified with the Silayan were elected to the commission which will manage the festival.
Elected to the position of chairman is Gene Lara, a hardworking and dynamic community leader in St. Jamestown who worked as a project and program coordinator of the Silayan Community Center. Willie Nabus, also a community leader in the area and executive vice president of Silayan, was elected as treasurer.
While the group is now preparing for the St. Jamestown June Festival, residents of the area are invited to put forward their suggestions to the commission and they are also invited to assist in this activity.
