Maria Herrera’s retirement party
Maria Herrera’s retirement party
By Noula Naulls
Maria Herrera, an Urban Issues Manager in Toronto Public Health, was the guest of honor at her retirement party held on Thursday, Nov.10, 2011 at the Spirale Banquet Hall. There were almost 200 people who attended this event in her honor and 22 others who contributed but, unfortunately, could not attend.
Tributes, skits, songs, pictures, and stories were enjoyed by all (with laughter and tears), and memories were relived and created. Guests sang and danced to the music provided by the DJs, who were fantastic, and played great music that Maria loved to hear and dance to as well. She loves to dance!
Maria was presented with a retirement gift of an iPad by her Director, Jann Houston. This iPad was engraved with the words: “Stay Connected” which was the theme of the party. With this gift, it is hoped that Maria can stay “connected” to her Toronto Public Health and affiliated external families.
Maria was also presented with two Certificates of Appreciation. One was from the Mayor of the City of Toronto, and the other certificate was from the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David McKeown, and staff of Toronto Public Health.
The party was a success and everyone had a wonderful time celebrating and honouring Maria Herrera. Toronto Public Health will not be the same without her.
