Silayan holds Spring dinner dance

TORONTO–The Silayan Filipino Community Centre held a successful fund raising activity at the Filipino Centre Toronto last April 16, 2005.

The event aptly titled: “Annual Spring Fling Dinner Dance,” was a night of dancing with many door and raffle prizes given away to the guests during the evening.

Highlights of the affair were the dance contests among the adults, and the young alike. Winners of the adult dance contest were retired Justice of the Peace Rick Manankil and wife Lourdes for the ballroom dance category, while Crystal Kerr and partner , won the modern dance category.

Young kids, from the St. Jamestown area emerged as winners in the kids’ dance contest. The lively music was provided by the husband and wife team of Jimmy and Grace Lopez who gave free services to the Silayan Centre.

Rosalinda “Rose” Tijam, President of the Silayan Community Centre, along with other members of the Silayan Board, Mesdames Erna Opeña, Doris Nabor and Aurora Medrano, and Mr. Delfin Palileo, thanked the guests who attended and the public, for their support and assistance to this Silayan’s fund raising event, without which the affair would not have been a success.

The Board also thanked Evelyn Laraya and Nora Angeles, for helping the planning and selling of tickets and for donating lots of door and raffle prizes. The Olaer Productions and the ANCOP-Gawad Kalinga (GK) Project, donated two tickets each for their respective future concerts. The tickets were also raffled off to the guests.

Among those who attended the event were representatives from the various Filipino organizations, members of the Filipino media group in Toronto, and the friends of the Silayan Community.
