FFCB PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY OFFERINGS:
As its way of greeting everyone “mabuhay” on the occasion of the 114th anniversary of Philippine Independence, the Federation of Filipino Canadians of Brampton (FFCB) will hold two celebratory events aimed at fostering camaraderie within the Filipino Canadian community and showcasing Philippine culture, traditions and heritage.
To commemorate Philippine independence day this year, the Brampton City Council is also set to proclaim the week of June 10 to 17, 2012 as “Philippine Heritage Week”. The proclamation is scheduled to be made during the council meeting on June 6, 2012.
To kick off the celebrations leading up to Philippine Heritage Week, FFCB will hold a fund-raising dinner dance dubbed “Freedom Ball 2012”. Guests are expected to come in their native Filipino terno (for the women) and barong (for the men). The event will be held on June 2nd at the Flower City Seniors Recreation Centre along McLaughlin Road in Brampton.
The Philippine independence day celebrations culminate on June 10th with a free festival in the Brampton downtown core. Now on its third year, the “Filipino Fiesta In the Square” is again expected to draw crowds with live performances, games and other fun activities, as well as delicious Filipino culinary treats offered by participating food concessionaires. The Fiesta commences at 12 noon with a ceremonial parade and ribbon cutting to be attended by Brampton West MP Kyle Seeback, Mayor Susan Fennell and other federal and city officials. Festivities continue throughout the day with non-stop entertainment and games, sports tournament and silent auction. Also featured are festival exhibitors showcasing their wares and services that will surely be of interest to many of those taking part in the festival. The Rose Theatre Garden Square, with its strategic location in the heart of Brampton, will again be the venue of the festival for this year.
Founded in 2002, FFCB is a non-profit organization formed to preserve and promote Filipino culture, traditions and heritage. FFCB initiated the proclamation and celebration of Philippine Heritage Week in Brampton every June.

Fiesta, Filipino-style. The crowds gathered to enjoy the festivities and fanfare at last year’s Filipino Fiesta In the Square held at the Rose Theatre Garden Square in Brampton. This year’s turnout, Filipino Fiesta organizers predict, would surpass expectations.
