Niagara’s Moon Festival a showcase of tradition
Niagara’s fall show kicks off again by celebrating The Moon Festival on October 13 at the Merriton Community Centre, St Catharines, 10:00am-6:00pm.
The Moon Festival is a multi-cultural gathering that celebrates the fall-autumn season inspired by the Chinese tradition of a Moon Festival – a thanksgiving in honor of the harvest season. This year’s event will showcase different ways of thanksgiving representing different countries. Activities will revolve around such tradition with a unique entertainment, colorful lanterns display and an exciting cultural experience. The main thrust of this year’s program will focus on the Philippines tradition. Among the entertainers will be the Culture Philippines of Ontario and Bong Castillo, a noted balladeer of Filipino songs. Entertainment starts at 1:00pm.
The event also serves as a fund-raising drive for UNICEF and will be opened to the general public. There will be a kid’s play zone, food tasting, ethnic dances and a musical extravaganza. The ‘Kabuhayang Pinoy’ (Filipino livelihood) in coordination with the Philippines Canada Business Council (CPBC) will have more enterprising and fun-filled activities including the prestigious Flower parade.
