Four roundtrip tickets to the Philippines, a side trip to heavenly Boracay resort and $1,000 spending money are some of the major prizes awaiting the winners of the 2005 1st Hiyas ng Pilipinas Canada Beauty Pageant which coronation night is set on November 11, 2005 at the Korean Community Center along Leslie St. in Scarborough.
Registration to this unique pageant among the members of the gay, transsexual and transgender community in Ontario is still going on until September 30, 2005 and registration forms and candidates packets are still available at the Philippine Variety store at 240 Wellesley St., East, St. Jamestown, Toronto City. Produced by Philippine Variety, this year’s Miss Hiyas ng Pilipinas Canada and other winners, Miss Hiyas Luzon, Miss Hiyas Visayas and Miss Hiyas Mindanao, would receive round-trip tickets to the Philippines courtesy of the Philippine Air Lines (PAL) and the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Toronto under the supervision of Director John Tanjangco.
But, only the grand winner, the 1st Hiyas ng Pilipinas Canada, would receive the CAN$1,000 spending money donated by some early major sponsors that include U-MAC Express Cargo-Toronto, The Philippine Courier, Shangrila Plaza, Manila City Mayor Lito Atienza, among others. The four winners would also have a three-night, two-day stay in the world-renowned Boracay beach in Aklan courtesy of WOW! Philippines and Shangrila Hotel.
The pageant, also supported by the Philippine Consulate Office-Toronto, Community Services Unit of the Toronto Police Service, Body Shots Canada (GFCA), WOW! Philippines-DOT, Radyo Pinoy 101.3 FM, is one way of uplifting the stature of the Filipino gay/transgender/transsexual community in Toronto as the candidates would showcase their different talents, hidden artistry, strong personalities and more that were previously unnoticed by the mainstream in the Presentation and Talent Night scheduled October 8, 2005 also at the Korean Community Center along Leslie St.
Beneficiaries of the affairs are Manila’s Tahanang Walang Hagdan, which would be receiving around 10 wheelchairs, the Silayan Cultural Center and the GFCA-Body Shots Canada, according to Ms. Torralba.
