UP Alumni group holds grand reunion

UP Alumni group holds grand reunion

Proud to be a U.P. GRAD? Remember the days?

Mark this on your calendar: Grand Reunion/General Meeting, UPAA in Toronto, October 14, 7:00 p.m. at the FCT (Filipino Centre), 597 Parliament St., Toronto.

Around 100 UPians are expected to enjoy an evening of nostalgia and fellowship, and to take advantage of the occasion’s opportunities for networking. Graduates and former students of the University of the Philippines are invited to attend the Grand Reunion/General Meeting of the UPAA in Toronto on Friday, October 14 at the Filipino Centre (FCT), 597 Parliament Street in downtown Toronto. Food and non-alcoholic drinks will be served. A nominal fee of $10.00 will be requested at the door.

To “keep the UP spirit alive,” guest speaker Consul Julius Torres, Mass Comm 1979, will give a short talk about social responsibility and the need for engagement among the UPAA members. Consul Torres has been in Toronto for the past two and a half years, after postings in Brussels and Canberra, and is very sensitive to the needs of the Philippine community.

Bayani Bernabe, president of the association, will present the upcoming social events (starting with a barn dance in November – get those pedal pushers out!) and current and forthcoming projects and activities. It is hoped that events of this kind will nurture the desire for more involvement among UPAA Members. In this regard, Dr. Mario Andres and Dr. Vicky Santiago will give an update on the progress of the Scholarship Fund campaign which is nearing a successful conclusion.

Dr. Andres will also entertain with a series of slides on the Diliman campus and campus life, then and now. There will be prizes and surprises, and lots of interesting trivia.

This is an event not to be missed. For more information, e-mail Noel Cruz at noelcruz@rogers.com; Amy Ada at daima@sympatico.ca; Daisy Bernabe at bernabe@rogers.com; or Jo Flach at jo.flach@rogers.com. You may also call Amy Ada at 416-927-0348 or Daisy at 905-479-7481.

If you have any interesting relevant photos or slides, please get in touch with Dr. Mario Andres at m.andres@sympatico.ca
