Health foundation holds 5th Valentine ball
TORONTO–The Filipino Health & Education Foundation celebrated its 5th Annual Valentine Ball last February 11th at the Humberwood Community Centre. Officers of the Foundation welcomed more than 300 guests when the doors opened at 6:30 p.m. As soon as Remm-V Sound System started the music, even before dinner, the guests did not need prodding to hit the dance floor. The emcees, brother and sister team, Jeremiah and Jo-Anne Sta. Maria, started the evening by calling Deacon Rony to say the prayer. The buffet dinner was once again prepared and served by Remely’s Restaurant and Catering.
Current Foundation president, Robert Aquino, addressed the crowd with an update on Foundation activities, before presenting a second scholarship cheque to the Foundation’s first Canadian scholar, Christopher Cruz, who attended the Ball with his parents. Christopher thanked the Foundation for the financial help and mentoring he continuously receives from the officers. The president’s update also included the first Foundation scholar in the Philippines to graduate from high school, Jayne Caday, of Sampaloc, Quezon.
Unique to the Foundation’s Valentine Ball, every year, February birthday celebrants are invited to the dance floor to gather around a large birthday cake while the crowd sings Happy Birthday. And this year is no exception. About 10 celebrants were greeted during the Birthday Cake portion of the program.
As desserts and coffee, donated by Renato Ramos of Tim Horton’s, were being served, the crowd was treated to a line dancing presentation from the members of the Pangasinan Group. During a break from intense dancing, the Foundation presented certificates of appreciation to 21 non-members who have continuously supported the mission and objectives of the Foundation. Giant chocolate Hershey Kisses were also given out to the awardees, which included individuals, families, associations, and corporations. There were also door prizes, majority of which was donated by Thane Direct, raffle draws and 50-50 draw held at various intervals during the night.
The Foundation wishes to thank everyone who attended the ball and all volunteers who quietly worked in the background to make this a successful event once more.
