Lilac’s concert ‘I shall be with You’ on Earth Day
Award winning, Toronto-based versatile vocalist Lilac Caña launches her fourth independently produced CD album, “I’ll Be With You” – a collection of songs and arias both refreshingly contemporary and familiarly classical – featuring special guests: international songwriter / guitarist Fred Cacciotti, pianist Catherine Maguire, tenor Leander Mendoza, and “Dizzy Fingers” flutist Natalie Cabri, on Earth Day 2006! Set in Toronto’s historic, beautiful Assembly Hall – this event presents young and established Canadian musicians, as well as works by visual artist Omel Masalunga and a video documentary by Joyne and Robert Lavides. Proceeds will benefit two international registered charities: ANCOP (Answering the Cry of the Poor), and CDRC (Citizens’ Disaster Response Center), agencies which are both instrumental in transforming the lives of the poor in the Philippines.
Fresh from her January 2006 concert tour in the Philippines, where she first released her new CD album I’ll Be With You, soprano Lilac Caña is an exceptional vocal artist equally at ease with opera, art songs, jazz and contemporary vocal styles. She graduated with honours from the University of Toronto’s Opera Performance Program, appeared with the Canadian Opera Company Chorus, created lead roles with Tapestry Music Theatre, Opera Mississauga, and enjoys soloist concert work with orchestras and choirs in Canada, New York City, and the Philippines.
She had the distinct privilege of singing as soloist for Pope John Paul II during World Youth Day 2002 with the Sacred Music Society. With her company LilacSounds she has recorded three CD albums, and produced multi-media concert events, which have benefited several charities worldwide. On periodic concert tours to the Philippines, she also gives voice workshops at the University of Santo Tomas, and the Philippine Women’s University.
Performances in 2005 include the role of Despina in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte with Brampton Lyric Opera; solo performances with internationally acclaimed bass-baritone Gary Relyea and the Cellar Singers in A Sea Symphony (Vaughan Williams) and Elijah (Mendelssohn); Handel’s Messiah with the Sacred Music Society; a solo appearance with Toronto’s Orpheus Choir in A Metro Christmas; and seven sold-out concerts during her 2005 Philippine concert tour.
