Soriano is new PPCO prexy
Tenny Soriano, a seasoned newspaperman and columnist of Toronto’s BALITA, elected new president of the Philippine Press Club – Ontario, taking the place of outgoing president Paul de la Cruz.
Soriano was one of the pioneer members of the multimedia team in the early 1970’s. He was a reporter of the defunce Daily Express and was the first members of the reportorial staff of the Philippine Daily Inquirer when it was formed. Before migrating to Canada, he was a staff member of the Manila Standard.
With him as vice president is Rose Tijam, one of the founders of the Philippine Agricultural Journalist, Inc..
Kareen Pascual Binaday was unanimously reelected as secretary while BALITA’s Mogi Mogado, is the association’s treasurer.
The Board of Directors are Hermie Garcia, publisher and editor of Philippine Reporter; Retired Editor-in-Chief Tony Sicat of the Pilipino Star Ngayon and freelance journalist; and Ramon Datol, the fightingest publisher and editor of Philippine Courier.
Soriano commitment to the PPCO members is to put up a fund for legal assistance to the association members who are facing libel suits and at the same time, to continue the workshops-seminars on the practicing journalists in Canada.
