Omar Tan Alvarado graduated with specialized honors with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Economics from York University, Toronto, Ontario.

He was a member of the debating society of York University and an exchange student of the institute in U.S.A and Canada Studies to Moscow, Russia.

He is editor-in-chief of the Malaysian. Singaporian, and Taiwanese newsletters.

He is the youngest of the five children of retired Regional Director Francisco A. Tan, Jr.of the Bureau of Fisheries and Acquatic Resources, Department of Agricutlure and Retired Pharmacist Olga Alvarado Tan.
