24 community volunteers receive service awards
Every year, the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration recognizes Ontarians who devote their time, energy and resources to help those individuals in their community who are in dire need of assistance. This year 2006 marks the 20th year of its milestone.
The Hon. Bas Bakisson, MPP for Scarborough Agincourt handed the awards.
There were twenty four (24) Filipinos who received this prestigious award which is a certificate and a pin that indicates the number of years the recipient has volunteered.
Julie M. Corpuz is the only recipient of the 30-year Certificate and a pin with a diamond at its centre. For the 20-year category, the following are the recipients: Grace Victoria Parucha, Melabel F. Caguiat and Aurora Medrano; for 10-year category are: Marylou Gaerlan, Luz Balbin, Exuperio Tiqui, Antonio Espinosa, Alvictus G. Parucha, Elsie Maranan, Jose Adriano Reyes, Maternida Reyes, Teresita Primero, Magdalena Canha, and Ronnie Dancel; for the five-year category, are: Lynda Spottiswood, Faustina Reyes, Rodrigo Mariano, Melly Peralta, Helen Duque, Jane Molina, Julie Molina and Carmelo Tancioco.
This year the 2006 Youth Achievement Award recipients are Kirsten V. Parucha and Immalyn Rheda Reyes. Last year 2005 awardee was Jonathan Pua. Alex P. Parucha, Sr., president of the Filipino Parents Association and chair on awards and honours of Ontario Filipino Women’s Club, Filipino Canadian Veterans Legion and Ateneo de Rizal for Philippine Studies nominated the foregoing recipients.
