PPC-O returns ‘Para sa Press’ monies to fundraiser
The Philippine Press Club of Ontario (PPC-O) has opted to return to Toronto-based outfit, Philippine Variety Productions the sum of $1,850 raised in a recent concert.
The money, consisting of cheques made out in the name of the PPC-O represented donations and sponsorships given to Philippine Variety for the “Para sa Press “ concert held at the Philippine Centre Ontario last May 6,2006.
PPC-O was supposed to be a beneficiary of some of the event’s proceeds. Some of the donors were Action Honda, Liland Insurance, PNB Remit, Parkway Honda, Evelyn Pagkalinawan, Philippine Variety Store, Kaakbay Financial Services and Likha News Magazine among others.
Philippine Variety Production head Teresa Torralba turned over the said cheques to newly-inducted PPC-O officers during their installation last May 27.
The decision to return the money was made during a recent PPC-O board meeting.
As this developed, PPC-O President Tenny Soriano and past president Paul de la Cruz said the organization was never in any way involved in the concert’s production, particularly in hiring or contracting performers for the show.
“We would like to clarify our position that the ‘Para sa Press’ concert was solely an undertaking of Philippine Variety Productions and that the PPC-O had no part in it whatsoever “ said Soriano.
“We wish to thank Philippine Variety Productions and the donors for their support of the PPC-O” said Soriano.
