Alumni gather in Toronto for ‘Tipon’ Silliman 2007
The Ontario Silliman University Alumni Association (ONSUAA) will be the host of this year’s Tipon Silliman 2007 convention. “Tipon” a Visayan term for community gathering aptly describes the every two year-convention of Silliman University alumni. Silliman University is one of the top prestigious academic institutions in the Philippines located in Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.
The ONSUAA in collaboration with the Silliman University Alumni Council of North America (SUACONA) “is proud to host the Tipon Silliman 2007 convention for Silliman University alumni and friends in North America, the Philippines, and other countries. Sillimanians and their families and friends are invited to join Tipon Silliman 2007 in Toronto” says Betsy Aya-ay Jackson, Tipon 2007 Event Chair.
The association started its first Tipon celebration in Chicago in 2001 following its Stony Point Agreement signed by 13 alumni chapters on June 28, 1998. Since then, Tipon Silliman has flourished and chapter membership has grown from 13 to 22. Past Tipon celebrations were also held in 2003 in New York/New Jersey and 2005 in California.
Tipon Silliman and the founding leaders of Silliman University Alumni Council of North America (SUACONA) state that the objective of the convention is to foster collaboration, solidarity and unity of purpose among existing alumni associations, provide a forum for raising and addressing issues pertaining to Silliman University, nurture relationships among alumni associations and strengthen the organizational and leadership structure of SUACONA.
