Letter of Appeal
Letter of Appeal
We’ve all heard it before; each time a horrific disaster hits some part of the world, spreading suffering, many people say “there is not much we can do about it”. In our hearts, we know that that is far from the truth. Yes, we CAN do something about it. Solidarity with our kababayans whose lives have been shattered by Typhoon Reming is very important at this time. This time it’s not just some part of the world that has been hit by the calamity – it’s our very own country.
In this season of giving, please consider giving a “gift of hope” and a sign of caring to someone such as the despondent kababayans in this picture. They and thousands of other kababayans who are lucky enough to have survived Typhoon Reming have lost everything, their food, clothing, source of incomes, and homes and many have lost their loved ones (probably their kids and income earners) to the deadly storm.
I have received reports of families going hungry for lack of money to buy food. This is not surprising since thousands have been left with nothing but the shirts on their backs as they fled from the mudslides, floods and whipping rains. A $5 donation will feed a family of 3 for one day (2 to 3 square meals). This is roughly the cost of one lunch here in North America.
Please log into www.typhoonreming.info to find out how you can make a donation. The need is immediate and a donation of as little as $5 is not too small. Suggestion: have your children send this donation. This will teach them love and charity for others, especially those in dire need.
Your gift will be administered jointly by the St. Agnes Academy (SAA) Alumnae Association (through its current president, Mary Ann Pineda-Reynoso) jointly with the Benedictine Sisters of SAA in Legazpi City. They will ensure that assistance will go to those who need it most (those without visible means of support such as income from employment or business but who have been directly affected by the storm). You will read about how donations have been administered in this website.
Please remember, it is in giving that we receive.
Jesus said for every act of charity, blessings will multiply a hundred-fold.
Please help this fund-raising effort by passing this message on to your friends and others who may be in a position to help or by pointing them to this website: www. typhoonreming.info/
Thank you and God bless.
