Job Track supports job-seekers
Job Track supports job-seekers
A YEAR has passed since Toronto first experienced the onset of SARS, but for many workers the impact is still being felt. Hospitality, service, entertainment and tourism are just some of the industries that were left reeling. In some of these, recovery is happening, but it is slow and many workers are still looking for employment.
The JobTrack Centre is part of the federal government’s response to the SARS crisis.
In the heart of the city’s waterfront, this bright and cheerful agency provides a variety of services to those who have lost their jobs or had their hours reduced since February 2003.
At the centre, workers can investigate the labour market, to catch up on the latest hiring trends. A popular speakers series features growth industry experts with inside information. The March series will conclude with Retail Opportunities and The Fitness and Recreation fields.
An on-site career counsellor helps clients create a back-to-work plan and also points them towards any other assistance they may need. Resumes and cover letters can be fine-tuned in workshops or in one-on-one appointments. Those nervous about interviewing can practice with mock interviews. Mental health is not ignored and advice on stress management and maintaining self-esteem is also available. Since November, over 800 people have accessed JobTrack’s services.
Best of all, JobTrack services are free, ESL friendly and tailored to individual needs. Come down to 370 Queens Quay West or telephone 416-977-8385 and get back on the job track.
