Asociacion Negrense vows more community involvement

The Asociacion Negrense in a well-attended picnic at Thompson Park, Scarborough, held its election last Saturday August 11 and put in motion new plans to revise its constitution and bylaws and become more active in community concerns affecting Negrenses living in Ontario.

Nene Castillo and her slate of candidates wrestled the leadership from incumbent President Richard “Dick” Flora in an election attended by more than 400 members.

Castillo, a soft spoken lady who hails from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental said she will work tirelessly to raise the level of involvement of the association in community affairs.

As a member organization of the Community Alliance for Social Justice (CASJ), Castillo said she will see to it that the Negrense Board will adopt measures to help participants of the Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP), participate in the campaign to promote Filipino-Canadians’ access to their trades and professions and join in the community’s effort to promote social justice and the well-being of the Negrenses and raise the level of its participation in the Filipino community capacity building and empowerment.
