CNAC-O marks first year
With Philippine Consul General Alejandro B. Mosquera as guest of honour and speaker, the Bikol-Tagalog speaking natives of Camarines Norte, Philippines celebrated the first foundation anniversary of Camarines Norte Association Canada – Ontario (CNAC-O) on Saturday, September 27, 2008.
CNAC-O was founded by 29 chartered members on April 27, 2007. Currently there are more than 100 members. The central goal of the association is to establish a viable scholarship program that will assist deserving students pursue high school education in the province.
In an effort to raise funds for the scholarship program, together with their families, friends and guests, CNAC-O held a successful dinner-dance in conjunction with its first foundation anniversary.
The highlight of the celebration is the induction of the set of officers for the 2008 – 2009 term by Philippine Consul General in Toronto, Alejandro B. Mosquera. He administered the oath of office to: Executive Officers Tony A. San Juan, President; Willie Nabus, 1st Vice-President; Larry Bercasio, 2nd Vice-President; Lida Espanol-Muguerza, Secretary; Kambz Silvio, Assistant Secretary; Pong Ostonal, Treasurer; Rommel Yanto, Auditor; and Susan S. Llanera, Press Relations Officer (PRO).
Directors are Marie Agoston, Salvador Gumabao, Elisa B. Maesa and Shey Silvio. Town Representatives Salve Aquino for San Vicente, Randy Fermo for Capalonga, Liwanag Nabus for Mercedes, Lourdes R. Balce for Vinzons, Eva San Andres for Daet, Milvin Servidad for Labo, Minda Alban for Paracale, Sonia dela Cruz for Basud, Shirley Rosales for San Lorenzo Ruiz, and Virginia San Juan for Sta. Elena. The CNAC-O adviser is Jojo Taduran.
Hosted by Larry Bercasio and Suzy Llanera, the members and their guests were entertained with a song rendition of “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Janie and Michelle Rosales. Thomas and Lydia Madrona-Yanto of Salsa Tropicalisimo performed a riveting salsa dance. Caterer, Bendette Prollamante provided satisfactory repast as background music reverberated in the social hall of Our Lady of Assumption Church, with DJ Dexter San Andres (Top Hitz) behind the gizmos. Beautiful centerpieces arranged by Andrea San Juan, and lots of donated gifts, were given away as raffle and door prizes to everyone’s delight and satisfaction.
CNAC-O’s special projects, besides the High School Studies Tuition Fee Grants are: Outreach Initiatives – Integrated donations of books, clothings, food and school supplies and Special Assistance for Calamity Fund Donation and Medical Mission. Ongoing fundraising activities include socials, casino trips, day tours and raffles. CNAC-O welcomes personal and corporate donations.
