Relevant and timely news
Dear Editor,
I came across the online edition of the Philippine Reporter when I was browsing the internet on newspapers that cater to Filipino communities in Canada. It’s uplifting to know that your newspaper, although thousands of miles away from the country, manages to come up with relevant and timely local news articles which still concern and matter to Filipinos abroad. I also found out that your paper has won awards from an ethnic media organization in Canada, a feat that not only Filipinos in Canada but Filipino journalists like me should be proud of.
Again, congratulations and good luck to the Philippine Reporter in your mission to provide journalism that has meaningful and strong impact to Filipino communities in Canada.

Filipinos’ positive attributes
Dear Editor,
I just wanted to comment on the article that was published in your paper, February 16-29, 2008. We posted this article in our store (my wife is the owner of Fiesta Filipino, opened Sept. 1, 2007). I am a “white” Canadian but having been married for almost 13 years now to a Filipina, and being well acquainted with many other Filipinos and involved in the community over the years. I can congratulate the Filipino community on the hard work they do in general and their positive attributes.
Your article illustrated this to a certain extent:
1. Over 7 out of 10 employed (Great!)
2. Over 3 out of 10 with university degrees (education important)
3. Concerning the average income level being lower that the national average, despite this, I would not hesitate to bet that Filipinos are probably on of the most charitable! i.e., Balikbayan box, money remittance (PNB, Western Union, etc), in general, the Filipinos are supporting many others back home.
4. Concerning the percentage of adults living alone, in particular seniors, this reveals the importance of family and togetherness.
It would be nice if you could provide and publish a more recent statistics (this was 2001).
We always try to pick up copies of The Philippine Reporter when we do our store supplies shopping in Toronto, and have them available for our customers here in The Falls. Keep up the good work in your publication! God Bless!
