APO Hiking comeback concert
TORONTO–The Philippine Independence Day Council (“PIDC”), with the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, The Toronto Arts Council and Arts Presentation Canada, is proud to announce that APO Hiking Society will be the featured concert at this year’s Mabuhay Philippines! Toronto Summer Festival. The show will be held on Saturday, August 7th at the Ricoh Coliseum, located directly adjacent to Heritage Court, National Trade Centre, Exhibition Place; the site of this year’s festival. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and select Filipino businesses and are priced at $38, $58, and $88 dollars.
Heritage Court, a 37,000 sq. ft indoor facility is geared up to host two days of jam-packed activities on August 6 and 7 starting at noon to 11 p.m. Entrance is FREE except for the finals of the Mabuhay Cup All-Star Basketball Tournament, scheduled on Saturday, August 7th at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are only $10 each. Watch as players from PHYBA, the North York Pinoy Athletic Association and PhilCan compete in the Bantam and Open categories. Following the Championship game, Free non-stop entertainment such as singing, dancing, arts and crafts, martial arts demonstrations, comedy and more await everyone that walks through the Heritage Court doors. Also, all entries from a poster contest supported by the Toronto District Catholic School Board will be on display with the winner being announced during the festival. In addition, everyone can also delight in things distinctly Filipino such as a Santa Cruzan, harana, balagtasan, WOW Philippines and of course, Filipino food.
On Sunday, August 8th, the Mabuhay Parade is set to cause a commotion along the streets of Toronto. Hundreds of revellers from numerous associations are expected to participate with floats and party goers roaring through the downtown core. The route for this year’s parade is as follows: Starting at the Queens Park grounds, the parade will move North to Bloor then head East. From there it will turn onto Sherbourne then head South. It will be proceed to Wellesley then head West onto University Avenue and go North back to the Queens Park Circle.
It is not too late to participate in this event, dubbed as the largest celebration of Philippine heritage and culture in Canada.
