Irigueños to teach Filipino culture to Canadian born children
TORONTO–“We aim to preserve our ways and customs as people coming from the Philippines and particularly from Iriga City and province of Camarines Camarines Sur,” according to Ms. Pacita A. Marasigan, the chairperson of the Iriguenos Sa ‘ Di Canada.
She pointed out that the association is working hard in strengthening the relationships among the people of Iriga who are now living in the province of Ontario and later on will teach and transfer these customs and traditions to the children who were born and studied in Canada.
Aside from Ms. Marasigan, other officers of Iriguenos Sa ‘ Di Iriga are Pablo V. Filio, vice chairman; Rhonda Dilla Carpenter, vice chairperson for the youth; Thess Filio, secretary; Maricor T. Villar, assistant secretary; Jose T. Emila, treasurer.
The members of the board of directors include Ely I. bermeo, Dr. Dulce B. Bismonte, Katleya G. Lee, Manuel N. Papa, Herry F. Rigoroso, Pura M. Velasco, and Tomas M. Villar.
Iriga City Mayor Emmanuel R. Alfelor, who is running for Governor in Camarines Sur during the May 10, 2004 elections under the Liberal Party told the officers, members of the board of directors and members of the Iriguens Sa ‘ Di Canada that the association will be a distant partner of the City Government of Iriga in strengthening the bond among the Filipinos in general and Iriguenos in particular.
Chairperson Marasigan appealed to feloow Iriguenos to keep and get stronger the spirit of brotherhood, unity, and understanding among the people of Iriga City who have opted to live and settle here in the province of Ontario.
