Benedicto lauds Bicol Canada
TORONTO–Philippine Ambassor to Canada Francisco L. Benedicto congratulated the officers and members of Bicol Canada, Inc, in a message sent to the association for continuously implementing the noble objectives of the group, and enhancing the strong bonds among the Bicolanos and all Filipinos in this part of the globe.
Mr. Benedicto also urged the men and women behind Bicol Canada, Inc. to keep on promoting the noble objectives of the association, to render service to the community, preserve Filipino moral values, and showcase “our rich cultural heritage.”
On the other hand, Consul General Alejandro B. Mosquera of the Philippine Consulate General’s Office – Toronto cited the Bicolanos in the Greater Toronto Area who have been always vibrant and civic oriented in the Filipino community and enjoying a high level of respect and admiration in Canadian midstream.
The new officers of Bicol Canada, Inc. headed by David “Bobby” Achacon, took their oath of office before Jocelyn Morales, Philippine Consulate’s Chief of the Administrative Services last April 3 at the Parish Hall of the St. Thomas the Apostle, in Markham.
Aside from Achacon, the other BCI officers who were inducted include Joseph Redoblado, 1st vice president; Floro A. Dabu, Jr., 2nd vice president; Thelma A. Antazo, 3rd vice president; Antonio Ragos, secretary; and Jose Gutierrez, treasurer.
The board of directors are May Nepomuceno Amparado, Paterno Macandog, Ministry of Environment’s Julio buiza, Josefa F. Cortez, Rafael Nebres, Jess Cabrias, Ed Muyot, and Antonio Sanchez. The board of advisers are Leon J. Aureus, Jr.; Eduardo Lee; Monina Lim Serrano, and Dr. Ceferina Llacer Trenholm.
Acharon announced that the goal of the association is “the enshrinement of Our Lady of Penafrancia so that she will have a permanent home where we could visit her anytime.”
Considering that some Bicolanos are non-Catholics, some non-religious activities have been lined up to allow all Bicolanos to participate.
