Yoyoy Villame to perform at St. Catharines trade show
ST CATHARINES, Niagara Region–For the first time in Niagara region, a Filipino-sponsored trade and concert show will take place on August 14, Saturday, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm (trade show) and 8:00 pm 10:00 pm (concert) at 7 Park Avenue, Merriton Community Centre in St Catharines. Everyone is invited to come and join this festivity.
The highlight of the event will be the concert of famous comic singer, Yoyoy Villame who has carved the date of the Philippines’s “discovery” in the most “illegal rhymes in lyric history.” Other fabulous entertainment are also in store to create a more memorable evening.
Apart from the cultural entertainment, this community event will gather companies and business establishments who wish to tap the Filipino-Canadian market in Niagara region. The trade show is open to the public for free. This would be a good chance to experience the sumptuous wide array of Filipino dishes and sweets while networking with businessmen and trade exhibitors offering business and employment opportunities. Members and staff of the Philippine Consulate in Toronto and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce-Toronto will be attending the event.
One of the prominent exhibitors is the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) which will be launching officially in St. Catharines its latest program “Ganda ng Pilipinas, Galing ng Pilipino” (Beautiful Philippines, the Good of Filipinos) GP2 Program. A video presentation will feature the well known Broadway singers like Lea Salonga, Soprano Andion Fernandez and Tenor Odoniel Gonzaga. These artists will showcase the natural attractions and cultural assets of the Philippines while at the same time highlighting the warm hospitality of the Filipino people. This would be an opportunity for everyone to witness the Philippines as a “Truly great nation and a wonderful tourist destination.”
The program will also encourage Filipinos to become active Toursm GP2 Volunteers. Under this program, the DOT will hold seminars, training sessions, symposia, meetings with targeted publics to teach them about the values of the Culture of Tourism, thereby “converting” them into agents of the DOT in the propagation of the objectives and activities of the GP2 program. “Graduates” of these training sessions will become bonafide Tourism GP2 Volunteers. They will be entitled to perks and other incentives such as GP2 vest, ID, button, and discounts in selected tourism-related establishments.
Other exhibitors like the Western Union, Philippine National Bank (PNB) Remittance and Forex Cargo will also be launching their latest affordable and convenient programs. Meanwhile, Mr. Felix Fullante, the President and CEO of International Comfort Foods Inc.(ICFC) will be introducing for the first time in Niagara region the famous “Barako Coffee” of the Far East. Guests will have the chance to taste and experience the traditional brew and aroma of authentic world-class coffee.
Meanwhile, guests will be in for a surprise, as the venue’s hall will be transformed into a tropical paradise through a fascinating display of watermelon, vegetables and flowers ice carvings from Filipino sculptor Ross Navarro. Navarro, a resident of Niagara Falls has been the three-time champion in Ottawa’s Winterlude National Ice Carving Competition and six times Champion in Toronto’s Nathan Philip Square Annual Ice Sculptures Competition.
