Jeffrey campaign continues

TORONTO –A week past the July 22 meeting of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) with the Reodica family and its lawyers, people are still awaiting the final report to be issued.

The two-hour meeting at the SIU simply provided an opporunity for the Reodica family to raise its concerns about the investigation into the case. However, a lot of the questions they raised remained unanswered, according to family members. As the meeting was going on, around 50 youth and leaders of Filipino organizations held A rally outside.

Meanwhile, the campaign for justice and truth in the fatal shooting of 17-year old student Jeffrey Reodica continues.

A number of organizations and individuals continue to raise funds for the family’s legal expenses. Toronto lawyer Barry Swadron is collaborating with three Filipino lawyers on the case.
Among the organizatiosn who have recently raised money were the Filipino Canadian Auto Workers Association, Maharajah Heritage Association of Canada , and the Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan. Individuals have also donated money in vairous amounts, among them Carlos Unas, publisher of Bulletin, who raised $100 from his birthday well-wishers. Another $100 from an anonymous donor was submitted to Jess Mallari of the Community Alliance for Social Justice. The collected monies will be turned over to the Reodica family’s legal fund.

The Youth Committee, headed by Joel Reodica, have been actively organizing in preparation for two major community cultural events to be held in support of the Justice for Jeffrey campaign. One is a whole day cultural and awareness activity for the entire family to be held in a Scarborough public square; the other is an evening youth concert to be held with the support of the Toronto Youth Cabinet and the City of Toronto. Dates and venues will be announced later.
