40th Christmas Festival at City Hall Rotunda
TORONTO–The Community Folk Art Council of Toronto (CFAC) and its member groups will be bringing together more than 25 different ethnic community Christmas displays at the 40th Annual Christmas Around the World Festival at City Hall Rotunda, 100 Queen St. W., December 4 and 5, from noon – 5 p.m. Admission is free.
The sights and scents of Christmas will transform City Hall’s Rotunda into an international marketplace of Yuletide delight including: Kolachinya from Macedonia, Ukrainian pyrizhky, Portuguese bolo rei, Filipino lumpya, Scots shortbread and Polish barsczc. Traditional ornaments, handicrafts, artwork and tapestries from around the world will also be available for purchase, each designed with Christmas in mind. Sveti Nikolai, Father Christmas, Sinterklaas and St. Nicholas (Santa Claus’ European cousins) will be on hand to entertain the little ones and Santa Claus may even drop by to share in the fun and good food.
CFAC is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that presents the heritage of over 91 nationalities found in Toronto. In coalition with its 91 member groups, CFAC showcases international traditions through events like Global roots, Christmas around the World, First Night and Taste of Toronto. The council also brings groups from other nations to perform in Toronto, and sends its own member groups to perform in places as far away as Taiwan. Through its activities, the council helps to bring about a higher profile for the heritage arts in the greater Toronto area.
