PHB: 19 years of giving Christmas cheers
PHB: 19 years of giving Christmas cheers
AS it has done for the past 19 years, Philippine Heritage Band again participated in Santa Claus parades in several communities in the GTA this month. The parade season started with an evening parade in Brampton on Nov. 20, Toronto on the 21st, Markham on the 27th and Vaughan on Nov. 28.
The season will culminate with a lantern parade with the Silayan Community Centre on Dec. 4th
The Christmas parades signal the start of the festive season. PHB’s participation in these parades help project a good image of the Filipino community into the mainstream Canadian population and beyond. The Toronto parade, which drew huge crowds, was televised in four other countries.
As a premier marching band, PHB is a fixture in many parade circuits and many organizers count on it to bring colour and spectacle to their parades. Not only do communities enjoy PHB’s presence but PHB’s very own members enjoy the marches and the applause that they always get along the way.
Youths who have been waiting to taste the PHB experience now have their chance to do so. On Sunday, January 30th, PHB will have an Open House at which time, interested parties can register to join. The place of the open house is near the northeast corner of Highway 7 and Thornhill Woods Drive (behind the Esso gas station), at 1:30 p.m. in Vaughan.
