Ivy is Incredible

Ivy is Incredible

By Viviene Lotilla-Dela Cruz

Who would’ve thought that this petite lady with such a small frame could give off such a strong, powerful voice that wonderfully hits those shrill, high notes?

I was thinking along that line as I watched Ivy Joy Maniquiz in her recent concert, ‘Ivy Joy and Friends’, singing her heart out to Dianne Reeves’ ‘Better Days’.

This former ABS-CBN kapamilya who moved to Toronto a few years ago, is such a blessing to Toronto’s multicultural music industry, as she now creates a buzz in the GTA’s concert arena with her incredible vocal prowess.

The concert, which was held on January 26 at the Hedgedale Community Centre in Brampton was such a huge success that she had to do double encores at the end of the show.

Ivy Joy and Friends revolved around the theme of love and friendship, with songs mostly focusing on the forthcoming V-Day celebration. Our diva started off with the perky song ‘At Your Side,’ and gradually moved on to more challenging duets with her guests, singing ‘With You I’m Born Again’ and ‘Endless Love.’ She also crooned to Mariah Carey’s ‘I’ll Be There,’ with seemingly effortless flair.

A personal favorite was her duet with her close friend, another diva in her own right, Josie de Leon, who, alongside Ivy, melted the audience’s hearts as they sang ‘That’s What Friends are For’.

Among her other ‘friends’ and special guests who graced the concert were DK Tijam, Tommy De Guia, the Will Express Singers, Christy Lomboy, and Nicole Ramos — who were all equally talented and entertaining, and helped make it one night to truly remember.

Watch out for Ivy Joy as she continues to serenade Torontonians in her various stints all throughout the city this year, and find out why people have been raving about her and can sum her up in only one word – Incredible.
