Radyo Migrante is York U Radio 2013 Best Spoken Word Show Awardee
Radyo Migrante has been honoured to have received the SPOKEN WORD PROGRAMMING AWARD during the CHRY 25th Anniversary Awards Ceremony on July 6, 2013. This award recognizes the show for “being an outstanding leader in critically thought out spoken word broadcasting” in the York University radio station.
Radyo Migrante, on air since 2007, is a current affairs talk/interview show on CHRY 105.5FM that airs every Sunday night between 9-10pm EST.
In the last year we had guests like Philippine progressive leaders like then-Rep. Raymond Palatino (Kabataan Partylist) and Garry Martinez (Migrante International Chair); former political prisoners like Angelina Ipong (SELDA Philippines) and Dr. Merry Mia Clamor of the Morong 43; and local Filipino-Canadians like award-winning theatre practitioner Catherine Hernandez of Sulong Theatre Company.
Our mandate is to deliver news and information that matter to Filipinos in Canada—from new migrants, to long-time citizens, and succeeding generations. This means we tackle issues ranging from migration, to human rights, to art and entertainment. Questions we explore include:
Why are there so many Filipinos in Canada? Why is the Philippines poor? What is ‘Filipino Identity’ or what does it mean to be a Filipino in Canada? And how will changes in Canadian law affect Filipino migrants here?
We would like to thank our listeners here in Toronto, across Canada, and around the world, for your continued support. We also invite new listeners to tune in this Sunday night!
