TORONTO–Good tidings and good moves. Two courageous and determined Pinoys have recently “thrown their hats” in the GTA political arena. One is IT professional Randy Bucao, the other is barrister -solicitor, Atty. Rafael Fabregas.
Randy “Randolf” Bucao is running for Councillor of Ward 10-York Centre in the City of Toronto for the upcoming Fall municipal elections. He had just filed his candidacy on March 3, 2014.
But who is really Randy Bucao?
A native of Talisay, Cebu, Randy and his family came to Canada in 1994. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the East-Manila he has worked in the IT industry for 20 years years in Toronto as a network specialist and small-business entrepreneur.
Very much engaged in community service, Randy was involved at the Silayan Filipino Community Centre and the Toronto Golden Vision Lions Club. For 5 years, he has been the Chair of Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC) of St. Jogues Catholic School, and elected as Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (CPIC) Representative of Ward 11, on which he was elected as Vice-Chair of the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s CPIC. Randy isthe first Filipino in Toronto who elected in CPIC Ward 11 and the city-wide CPOC as Vice-chair.
Happily married to Zenalyn Hechanova of General Santos City and a father of two school-aged daughters, Randy is a founding member of Filipino Canadian Parents Association in Catholic Education (FCPACE), and is helping towards the appointment of a Filipino Advisory Committee at the Toronto Catholic education system.
Being a former college instructor in Manila, he is also a member of the Philippine Teachers Association-Canada (PTAC).
Whenever given the opportunity to serve, Randy plans to advocate and work towards transformation concerns of Ward 10 residents in land transfer tax, public transit, public safety, social services and development, public parks enhacement, sustinable environment, and the cost- efficient delivery of vital municipal services, as well.
Panahon na! Randy would love to be the voice for all Pinoys and other ethnic and diverse residents in Ward 10-York Centre.
