Kalayaan Centre elects new officers
The Kalayaan Cultural Community Centre held its annual general meeting and election of a new board of directors on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at the new KCCC at 5225 Orbitor Drive in Mississauga.
The board reported its accomplishment in the past year the most important of which is the acquisition of a facility at the above address – a one-level condominium consisting of three units with a total are of 7, 230 square feet costing $975,000.
The board also announced the amendment of the constitution removing from the document, the 150 % rule requiring a candidate to deposit $1,000 and contributing 150% of that amount or $1,500 each year of his term. Other accomplishments are a change from the presidential to the parliamentary system and the addition of a youth representative to the board.
In the election that followed the general meeting, the following were elected to run the affairs of the organization in the next two years. Most of the incumbent directors were re-elected: Ching Quejas, President; Resty del Rosario, Executive Vice President; Ruffy Romano, Vice President for Programs administration; Estelita Liwag, Secretary; Pete Carin, Treasurer; Nestor Perez, Auditor and Dr. Romy Sinajon, PRO; Mayette Balbastro, Maria Cabillan (Youth), Robert Chua, Alfredo Crisostomo, Art de Vera, Dr. Solon Guzman, Charity Lim, Ponce Padua, Delfin Palileo, Frank Pendon and Carmen Sunga, directors. Vangie Alcasid returns to the board to represent Kalayaan.
