NYPAA Youth Basketball Clinic now on
The North York Pinoy Athletic Association (NYPAA) is on track with its recently initiated House League and Fundamentals Clinic in the game of basketball. The local competition is now being held at the Antibes Community Centre, North York, Toronto, Ontario under the leadership of Victor Montero, NYPAA sports commissioner.
Currently, there are 82 registered players under the following categories: 4 Teams for Mosquito (9 years & under); 3 Teams for Tykes (11 years & under) ; 3 Teams for Peewee (13 years & under); and 2 Teams for Bantam (15 years & under) .
This year, the young players are focused and being trained and honed under the tutelage of dedicated and wonderful Coaches and Youth trainers, namely: Victor Montero, Mark Victoria, Homer Obille, Christian Lalicon, Jimi Fernandez and Renato Columbano. NYPAA Founders Ed Sotto, Vilma Tahsin, Roger Tarca and Bob San Juan are providing technical assistance and guidance. As expected, they volunteer reasonable time, efforts and hard work and are solidly committed to training and developing young people by impressing on them the “importance of education, respect, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship”.
The 16- year old community-based volunteer organization’s main objective is “ to enhance our traditional Filipino values of respect, trust and camaraderie. The Association also promotes athletic activities as a more productive means of spending leisure time for parents and their children as well.
The Association further aims to provide a vehicle for Filipino-Canadian families to spend quality time together while fostering active lifestyles through sports.
