TORONTO–It was indeed another lavish Sweet Sixteen Debutante’s Ball thrown by Mr. and Mrs., Anthony deLeon, only this time, in honor of their youngest daughter, Margot-Denyel Bautista de Leon. Having embraced and integrated the western cultural tradition of celebrating Sweet 16, while at the same time, trying to preserve our very own cultural tradition of the Philippine Debut, the DE LEONs have from the time their eldest daughter turned 16 adopted the concept of a Sweet 16 Debut. The grandiose celebration took place at the elegant Destiny Banquet Hall and Convention Centre in Woodbridge, Ontario on Saturday, December 27th, 2014. Guests were given the red carpet treatment as they make their way into the Grand Ballroom. They were also treated to a sumptuous Italian dinner, prepared by the Haute Chef de la Destiny, and to a lively entertainment by the debutante; her older siblings, Monica-Denise and Mikkel-Brandon; together with her cotillion court, comprised of Pauline Cabreza, Kimberly Catapang, Jodie Constantino, Aliza De La Reyna, Mary-Dannielle Fabian, Alsy Reyes, Cjay Reyes, Jessie-Jordan Clemente, Bryan De Lazo, Mark-Leonard De Leon, Mikkel-Brandon de Leon, Christopher Lee-Dumasal, Felix Lui, Varunan Muthiah and Scott Xoxa.

The highlight of the evening was the Cotillion de Honor, thoughtfully choreographed by Mr. Davy Badian and beautifully executed by the ‘Sweet 16 dancers’ that includes our birthday celebrant. But the most endearing segment was the changing of shoes, from flats to heels, where the father was quoted as saying, ‘You may now be a grown up and might no longer be a child, but you will always be our (mommy’s and daddy’s) child’. Hopping from one designer gown to another, Margot-Denyel fittingly became the Belle of the Ball. Beaming with joy, she was serenaded with a selection of 16 beautiful love songs and was presented with 16 white roses by 16 distinguished gentlemen who were lucky to have gotten the rare honor to dance with her. Furthermore, a group of 16 ladies took turns to light the candle with each one being given the opportunity to share a few words about our birthday girl.

Highly notable performances of the evening were rendered by REBELDE LEON, the debutante’s family band; soloists, Olivia Xoxa, and the outstanding dance numbers by Davy & Natalia, the SJMP Spirit Squad and Mikkel & Kimberly.

Indeed, it was yet another memorable evening of elegance, sophistication and an all-around classy celebration by La Familia De Leon for a well-deserved debutante, Miss Margot-Denyel Bautista De Leon!
