Harper gov’t announces support for York Centre seniors
Seniors in York Centre will soon have new opportunities to volunteer, mentor younger generations, help reduce social isolation of their peers, help raise awareness of elder abuse, and take part in physical and social activities, announced Mark Adler, Member of Parliament for York Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Alice Wong, Minister of State (Seniors).
The following organizations in York Centre are receiving a grant total of $246,880 for their projects from the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).
• Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse; ABC Project – Art, Baking, Companionship for Prevention of Financial Abuse; $25,000
• Golden Years Volunteers of Downsview; Intergenerational Pilates; $25,000
• Ontario Coalition of Senior Citizens’ Organizations (OCSCO); Elder Abuse: The Basics Everyone Should Know for Healthy Retirement Communities; $24,650
• Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples; The Hispanic Artisan Seniors’ Group; $25,000
• Russian Canadian Broadcasting; Toronto Walking Tours Led By Seniors; $25,000
• Lao Association of Ontario; Connecting Seniors Through the Use of Internet and Social Media; $25,000
• Beth Joseph Anshai New York Synagogue; Intergenerational Storytime; $22,480
• Gan Chabad; Seniors Share Their Life Stories With Children Through Art and Storytelling; $25,000
• Canadian Russian Speaking Alliance; Veteran Legacy, $24,750
• The Prosserman JCC; Healthy Aging Through Visual Arts; $25,000
Quick Facts
Under the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), up to $25,000 in grant funding can be provided to eligible organizations for community-based projects that are led or inspired by seniors.
