Many Filipinos think Aquino’s support for Mary Jane’s case, other OFWs not enough
Eight of ten Filipinos are aware of Mary Jane Veloso’s case, and half of these 1,219 respondents said that the Aquino government’s response to her case is not enough. Majority of the respondents also think that the Aquino government’s support for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is not enough, according to IBON’s latest nationwide survey.
Asked if they know about the case of OFW Mary Jane Veloso, who was sentenced with the death penalty in Indonesia in 2010, majority or 81.5% of all respondents answered “yes”. Only 18.2% answered otherwise.
Of those who are aware of Veloso’s case, 50.1% answered “no” when asked if they think the Aquino government’s response to her case was sufficient, while 37% answered “yes”.
Asked if, in their opinion, government’s support for OFWs is enough, 56.4% of respondents are aware of Veloso’s case answered “no”. Only 25.8% answered “yes”.
The non-commissioned nationwide survey was conducted from May 13-23 across various sectors. It employed multi-stage probability sampling and has a plus- or minus- three percent margin of error.
