Tadian Federation of Canada, in observing their annual celebration at this time of the year, themed their event on the life and times of their indigenous culture.
Through music, jamming and a musical play, “Dawak Ed Tadian,” the highlight of the event, an estimated 160 to 180 guests were treated to a joyous night of cultural entertainment.
“Dawak ed Tadian”- dawak means marriage. Tadian is one of the municipalities of Mt. Province. The event featured the traditional practice of marriage celebration in Tadian through musical play.
Held at the Holy Rosary Church Hall on St. Clair West, Toronto, On., Saturday, Oct. 21, participants in the cultural numbers included youth and adults in the various organizations involved. “Dawak Ed Tadian” depicted the joyous, self-sufficient and peaceful existence of an indigenous tribe.
Pya Macliing Malayao, secretary general of KATRIBU, was the event’s guest speaker. She talked about the plight of the Lumad driven out of their lands by the military, and the efforts of the people to seek justice.
Participants in the event were Bauko and Besao organizations, BIBAK, PANABA, Sabangan, MPAC, Sagada Organization, San Lorenzo Anglican Church, and Migrante Canada, among others.
