Fil-Can teachers group elects new officers

The Philippine Teachers Association of Canada (PTAC), during its General Assembly on November 14, 2015, elected its new set of officers and directors for the 2015-2017 term. Held at the Finch-Bathurst Hub in North York, Toronto, the members of the samahan ng mga gurong Filipino in Canada chose Rose Apilado as its new president and chairman of the board, succeeding Boni Curutan who will sit in the Board as ex-officio director.
Elected also to serve for two years are the following members of the PTAC Executive Directorate: Marissa Ciacico, Vice president for administration; Cielito Drapeza, V.P. for external affairs; Maria Concepcion Bernasor, V. P. for special projects; Perly Laganas, secretary; Alicia Bautista, asst. secretary; Mila Curutan, treasurer; Trina Andres, asst. treasurer; Gigi Reyes, Bus. Manager; Red Andres, asst. bus. mgr.; Grace de la Reyna, auditor; Rowell Perez, asst. auditor; Monica Anne Batac, PRO; Bernadette Gapuz, asst. PRO and Directors: Marites Abubo, France Ampioco, Sheryl Andres, Arthur Apilado, Jujelyn Brown, Gary Camu, Rose Cruz, Joel Pine, Tony San Juan and Donna Scutariu.
The socio-professional teachers organization , organized in May 2006, is composed of Ontario-certified and practicing teachers in public and Catholic elementary and secondary schools and colleges in the province as well as former educators in the Philippines. It has established ongoing initiatives including partnerships and collaboration, through its outreach and in-house projects and programs, in providing voluntary professional services and assistance in the areas of education career search, mentoring & networking , group academic tutoring, professional teacher development, teacher-licensing assistance, community-based development programs and other education-related matters.
PTAC members include those:
1. currently licensed and engaged in permanent or occasional teaching,
2. in career transition, seeking teacher employment,
3. on in-process certification application,
4. in alternative-related education careers,
5. internationally- educated teacher-newcomers doing non-teaching work and
6. retired Ontario and/or Philippine teachers.
