New officers of Fil-Can Association of Niagara sworn in at Christmas party
The newly elected 2016-2017 officers of Filipino-Canadian Association of Niagara (FCAN) were sworn in at the organization’s Christmas Dinner Dance last December 5 at the Americana Conference Resort in Niagara Falls. Former Lord Mayor of Niagara-on-the-Lake Art T. Viola officiated the swearing-in ceremonies.
The 2016-2017 officers are: Augusto Cuyugan, President; Rolly Dela Cruz, 1st Vice President; Sylvia Occasion, 2nd Vice President; Mayeen Vergara, Secretary; Marita Bada, Treasurer; Emilio Jacinto, Auditor; Nancy Lucena and Fortunato Solis, Cultural Directors; Elise and Dante Daquioag – Seniors’ Advisors; Public Relations Officers: Mary Grace Rabino, Jackie Santos and Vince Miles – St. Catharines and area; Catherine Lorna Barrett, Alice Udell and Elvie Damiano – Niagara Falls and area; Veronica Quintin, Fort Erie, Welland, Port Colborne and area.
Highlights of the evening were the farewell speech of outgoing president Renato Aoanan, who introduced and recognized the contributions of the outgoing 2014-2015 officers; and the inaugural speech of the newly elected president Augusto Cuyugan.
The event, which featured a buffet dinner, had lively numbers that included the traditional dance, first by the outgoing officers, followed by the dance of the incoming officers. Dancing by the guests and raffle draws went on through the night.
