BATHURST-WILSON PARKETTE

TORONTO–The Honourable Tobias C. Enverga, Jr., senator from Ontario, was delighted to have joined His Worship John Tory, Mayor of the City of Toronto, and Councillor James Pasternak at ribbon cutting ceremonies for the new Mabuhay Garden at the Bathurst – Wilson Parkette.

“As the first Canadian senator of Filipino descent, I am delighted to join Mayor Tory and Councillor Pasternak in the opening of the Mabuhay Garden here at the corner of Wilson Avenue and Bathurst Street,” Senator Enverga said in a statement. “It is a wonderful token of recognition for the Filipino community’s contributions to the City of Toronto,” he continued.

This Toronto neighbourhood, where Filipino businesses and restaurants line the streets, is home to a rapidly growing number of immigrants from the Philippines.
Both Mayor Tory and Councillor Pasternak spoke very highly of Filipino Canadians, praising them for their excellent work ethic and their strong sense of family values. Mayor Tory and Councillor Pasternak told Senator Enverga during the event that they were pleased to have taken part in initiatives to recognize Filipinos by giving them a place to gather and celebrate being Canadians.

“I want to thank Mayor John Tory and Councillor James Pasternak for acknowledging the increasingly positive impact that kababayans have in this ward specifically and the Greater Toronto Area in general,” the Senator ended.
