FilCan woman lawyer seeks PC nomination for MPP

Albeit the Ontario provincial election is about 17 months away, a feverish air of preparation, alignment and decision-making is now blowing hot and din in the political landscape. This is now happening in the GTA , more specifically in the City of Mississauga, Ontario.

With lots of verve, determined aspiration and purposeful goals, an audacious Filipino descent woman is running for nomination as a Member of Provincial Parliament candidate under the Progressive Conservative Party in the newly-created riding of Mississauga Centre. She is Atty. Angely M.Q. Pacis. With a mantra of : “Stronger Together! Uniting Us With One Voice”, she is continuing her political journey in Ontario, hoping to contribute and offer her leadership skills and professional attributes in bringing transformative change in the province especially in Mississauga Centre.

Mme. Angely Pacis, an immigration and constitutional lawyer since 2010, was born in North York and grew up in Mississauga of Filipino Canadian background. She lived in Montreal for almost 20 years and has returned to Mississauga in 2014. Angz is the daughter of Antonio Pacis, an Ilongo and the late Dr.Lydia Q. Pacis from Bikolandia in the Philippines. She speaks English, French and conversational Filipino (Tagalog) and Chinese (Mandarin). Proud of her roots, she is determined to continue her family’s tradition of helping immigrants achieve a better life in Canada.

A law member of the the Law Society of Upper Canada( Ontario) in 2015, Angely is also a licenced lawyer with the Barreau du Quebecsince 2010. She holds an LLB from Universite de Montreal having completed Bachelor of Arts Joint Honours degree in Political Science and East Asian Studies, with a minor in International Development -Economics, at McGill University in 2000. In 2002, she took up graduate studies in Journalism at Concordia University.

Being a law scholar, among Angely’s continuing law studies include : European Law( 2007), Aboriginal Law ( 2008), Human Rights Law ( 2015) and Constitutional Law & International Trades-Treaties( 2016). S he also studied Government under the Advanced Placement Program at Harvard University, USA during the summer of 1995. Currently, she is into the LMM Osgoode Law School Program in Constitutional Law.

After becoming a lawyer in Quebec she established a public-interest practice in immigration and family laws serving culturally-diversed communities. As a director of several not-for-profit organizations she was known of helping low-and-middle income earners especially vulnerable and out-of status caregivers.

She proudly describes herself as an avocate, a mother and wife, a centrist-right politician and a proud Canadian of Filipino origin. A social issues advocate and civic leader in Montreal , she ran as a candidate of the Coalition Avenir Quebec ( CAQ) for Quebec Parliament in 2012. Putting her name this time in the PC nomination ballot, Angely hopes to champion issues on “health care, education, job growth and economy” for the residents of Mississauga Centre.

A determined contingent of leaders and supporters are presently working hard to get her nominated and are hoping that Atty.Angely Pacis, “your voice , your champion”, becomes the first female candidate from the Filipino Canadian community and subsequently winning and serving as the first Filipino MPP in Ontario.
