Speaking Tour: Women’s Health, Women’s Rights
TORONO–Inter Pares and The Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic are co-presenting a public event focused on sexual and reproductive health, and violence against women.
The Philippines-based Likhaan Centre for Women’s Health staff members Caren Pineda and Mark Abellon will be visiting Canada for a five-city speaking tour to share their experience addressing poverty and lack of access to contraception, and fostering comprehensive sexuality education. This event will feature a 30-minute film, Sulingan – portraying the true stories of three women whose lives were wrought by violence, social inequality, and natural disaster, and who found resiliency and strength in Likhaan’s community programs.
Reproductive health and rights are a major focus of Likhaan’s programs, reflected in its clinical services, education work and advocacy. It also promotes a health-care system that is more humane and respects the patients.
“Inter Pares is thrilled to offer an opportunity, through this tour, for the public to learn more about women’s reproductive rights in the Philippines, understand better Canadian contributions to these efforts, and make international solidarity connections” said Rita Morbia, Executive Director of Inter Pares.
The Government of Canada provides funding for Inter Pares’ program with the Likhaan Centre for Women’s Health.
Where: Barbra Schlifer Clinic, Suite 503, 489 College Street, Toronto, ON
