Resist together vs Martial Law

Resist together vs Martial Law

group-combined

Bayan Canada in Toronto:

Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, Toronto Pinoys and Canadians gathered at OPSEU to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the declaration of Marcos martial law in the Philippines. Speakers talked about current repressive conditions in the country reminiscent of the 1972 – 1986 martial law. A youth made a presentation on her recent experiences of exposure to the social conditions in the Visayas and Manila highlighting the poverty, violations of human rights and the protests against government policies and actions. A female Migrante leader spoke about conditions under the Marcos martial law and a youth leader spoke about the Duterte regime and its relations with Canada. There were chantings of old martial law protest slogans (‘Makibaka, huwag matakot!’) and cultural numbers including the song Awit ng Kalayaan.
